The Motorcycle Riders Foundation meets with United States Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood.

Thursday April 23, 2009
The Motorcycle Riders Foundation vice president of government relations Jeff Hennie along with ABATE of IL legislative coordinator Bob Ward and board member Rick Olsen sat down with newly seated Secretary LaHood to discus the Department of Transportation and its role in the motorcycle community.

LaHood served in the US House prior to his role at the top spot at USDOT where he was a strong champion of motorcycling on many fronts. So it comes as no surprise that he pledged to continue that role nationally. LaHood is

a past recipient of the MRF’s highest congressional honor, an MRF Champion award. The award is given to Members of US Congress upon displays of extreme dedication to motorcyclists.

Of discussion were items such as the recent National Transportation Safety Board lobbying state committees for helmet law, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s quarterly meetings and 2010 funds as well as the Federal Highway Administration’s Motorcycle Advisory Council. The Secretary promised an open door policy for the motorcyclist and invited us to contact him should we have issues he can be helpful on.

We at the MRF wish Mr. LaHood the very best as he takes on the challenging role of sheparding our Nations entire transportation system into the next century.
