FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF) Meeting of the Minds conference is
less than a month away now in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. If you have not
registered for the conference you may still do so by visiting the MRF
website and clicking on "Conference Information." The discounted rate for
pre-registration has passed, but if you are planning to attend you need to
register nonetheless. You may register online or send a check for your
registration made payable to "MRF" to the DC office at 236 Massachusetts
Ave. NE #510, Washington, DC 20002.
Rooms at the host hotel sold out quite some time ago. We do have some
overflow hotels available within walking distance to the host hotel. When
I say walking distance I mean three minutes or so. If anyone is planning
to attend and has not yet made their hotel reservations, the overflow
hotels are Holiday Inn Express, 319-294-9407; Main Stay Suites,
319-363-7829; and Baymont Inn, 319-378-8000.
This year's conference once again has a variety of workshops and general
sessions. We have awarded three Young Activist Scholarships this year,
and those three young people will be addressing the entire group during
one of the general sessions. They will be discussing how they got
involved in the motorcyclists' rights movement and offering advice on how
we can continue to reach out to the 30 and under segment of our riding
population to expand our membership bases.
Slider Gilmore will be addressing the entire group on Saturday with his
workshop on "What Successful People Do." If you have never had the
privilege of listening to a presentation by Slider, you will not want to
miss this opportunity. In addition, Slider will be offering a breakout
session on accident scene management. The workshop will be offered in two
parts and you are encouraged to attend both segments, but even if other
workshops conflict and you can only attend one segment, Slider provides
information that may someday save the lives of your riding brothers and
sisters.
Both the Canadians and the Europeans will again be present to talk to us
about issues that are occurring outside the US borders in relationship to
the motorcyclists' rights movement. The information they present each
year is invaluable, as often they see it first.
We also have scheduled workshops on Impaired Riding, Lobbying and
Testifying for Novices, Wisdom and Motivation for the Activist, Insurance
and more. Whether this is your first Meeting of the Minds or your 22nd,
there will be something for everyone.
Something new we will be doing this year is showing videos and listening
to audios from various states. We will cover PSAs, promoting MROs, and
showing what creative things the MROs have done over the past year to
further the cause. If you have a video or PSA that you would like us to
show, please contact me no later than September 10. Time permitting, we
will air as many as possible.
If you have any questions or concerns about the conference please give me
a call or e-mail me at downs at mrf.org. See you in Cedar Rapids!

in 1987, is a membership-based, national motorcyclists' rights
organization headquartered in Washington, DC. The first motorcyclists'
rights organization to establish a full-time presence in Washington, DC,
the Motorcycle Riders Foundation is the only Washington voice devoted
exclusively to the street rider. The MRF established MRFPAC in the early
1990s to advocate the election of candidates who would champion the cause
of rider safety and rider freedom.
The MRF proudly claims state motorcyclists' rights organizations and the
very founders of the American riders' rights movement among its leading
members. The MRF is involved in federal and state legislation and
regulations, motorcycling safety education, training, and public
awareness. The MRF provides members and state motorcyclists' rights
organizations with direction and information, and sponsors annual regional
and national educational seminars for motorcyclists rights activists, as
well as publishing a bi-monthly newsletter, THE MRF REPORTS.
